Whisper’s Submersible Filming Platform
A major problem with filming underwater is the placement and lighting of underwater sets, especially in the natural environment. In the ocean, it’s a tedious and physically demanding process, and as a result, and takes a lot of time and is very expensive.
You can shoot in a water tank and establish a little more control, but the results — unless they are close-ups — are normally less than optimal. Shooting in the ocean under ideal lighting conditions will typically produce the best results.
In order to overcome this challenge and save substantial time and dollars, the Whisper production has designed and will build an innovative 60-foot submersible platform for filming underwater sets. While the platform is topside, the sets and lighting will be placed on it, tested and tweaked. Only when the lighting is correct and everything is in place, will the platform descend to the seafloor for filming. The submersible platform will be brought back to the surface for any major changes in sets or lighting.

The submersible platform will be critical in capturing those hard to get shots, such as, the depiction of the sinking of the freighter, as described in our script. A set of the forward section of the freighter will be placed on the submersible platform and will be filmed descending to the ocean floor.
The cost of building this submersible platform is budgeted at $350,000, but it should save the production substantial labor cost by significantly expediting the underwater filming schedule. Plus, after the production, the submersible platform can be either sold or leased to other underwater filming projects.
